Caring for my aging parents

If anyone would have told me that I would retire at 58 from my job to care for my elderly parents I would have called them crazy, But here I am. I live in small town Alabama and worked for the Federal Government for over 25 years. In 2023 my mother became ill, and the decision was made to move her and my dad from Houston Texas to Alabama so they could be closer to me. I do have 2 brothers, but they live in Ohio and visit when they can, so the burden of care falls on me. This is my story and day to day events of taking care of my dad, who just turned 83 and my mom who is 82. I thought this would be easy, boy was I wrong. Neither of my parents can drive so I am caretaker and driver. I help coordinate their care, do grocery shopping, and make sure they are taking care of themselves. All this while keeping my own home moving. I live with my husband and our 4 fur babies who have their own health issues. My intention with this blog is to use the platform to share my struggles and share knowledge I have learned and continue to learn with regards to caring for your parents. It sounds like a pretty easy thing to accomplish but there are so many things I have learned about writing wills, healthcare proxy, medication management, etc. I hope that what I have learned and what I encounter daily will help others with the overwhelming task of caring for parents. I thank God daily that I have both my parents still in my life and that I have been given the patience and determination to keep them happy, safe, and healthy for their remaining years here on earth. My goal is to post weekly and share our trials and tribulations as well as links to sites that I use and documents that I have had to secure to provide for mom and dad.
